SIX Loves… Study NY
Founded by designer, sustainability consultant, and supply chain expert Tara St. James, Study NY’s main aim is to “make fashion without making waste”.
A high-concept label at the forefront of the ethical fashion industry, Study NY has a transparent supply chain for every step of a products’ journey.
From field to cutting table, every part of a garment’s process is carefully examined and controlled to ensure it is socially and environmentally conscious.
St. James’ work as a pioneer of ethical fashion extends far beyond her own label. The designer takes an active role in promoting merits of ethical fashion amongst future design talent and consumers alike, having lectured at Parsons, Pratt and FIT.
Most of Study NY production is done in New York City. The label has a long standing relationship with a female owned factory in the heart of the garment district called Valentine USA.
Some of the production takes place in North Carolina near where St James sources a particular type of fabric. Production facility in NC called Opportunity Threads, where Study’s Twist Dress is made, then sends all scrap fabric back to Study, which is then repurposed into their Weaving Hand x Study NY Sweatshirt.
“I wish I was more aware of how big of a sustainable fashion community New York City has to offer and was introduced earlier. It has been really inspiring to have so many people collaborate and working together toward the future of sustainable fashion.”Tara St James
